Birth and childhood

Ali's father Abu TAlib ibn Abd al-Muttlib was the guardian of the Kaaba and a sheikh of the Banu Hashim, and significant branch of the powerful Quraysh tribe. As well he was uncle of Muhammad (SAW). And Ali’s mother Fatima binte Asad  belong to Banu Hashim, making Ali (RAA) a descendant of Ishmael, the son of Ibrahim.

Ali (RAA) was the only person who born inside the Kaaba in the city of Mecca during Mohammad's time. Some sources contend that he was born next to the Kaaba rather than in it. Muhammad (SAW) was the first person who saw Ali (RAA), as he took the new baby in his hands. Muhammad (SAW) named him Ali (RAA), meaning "the exalted one".

Ali 's parents had a close relationship with Muhammad (SAW). When he was fatherless and later he lost his grandfather Abdul Muttlib, Ali 's father took him into his house. Two or three years after Muhammad (SAW) married Khadijah bint Khuwaylid, Ali (RAA) was born. When Ali (RAA) was five or six years old a food shortage hungry occurred in and around Mecca, moving the economic situation of Abu TAlib who had a big family to hold.  So Muhammad (SAW) took Ali (RAA) into his home to lift him.
